Celebration of International Women’s Day at ICAR–Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (ICAR–DOGR), Rajgurunagar

The International Women’s Day was celebrated at the ICAR–Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (ICAR–DOGR), Rajgurunagar, Pune on 10 March 2026 with great enthusiasm on theme “Give to Gain” and active participation from women employees of the institute. The program was organized under the aegis of the Women Cell of ICAR–DOGR and coordinated by Mrs.. Ashwini Benke, Scientist (Genetics) and Chairperson, Women Cell.
The event was graced by Adv. Aarti Thigale as the Chief Guest, who delivered an insightful talk on women’s empowerment, legal awareness, and the importance of ensuring safe and respectful workplaces. She encouraged women to be aware of their rights and emphasized the role of legal frameworks in protecting women in professional environments.
Dr. Vijay Mahajan, Director, ICAR–DOGR, addressed the gathering and appreciated the valuable contributions of women employees in strengthening agricultural research and institutional activities. He acknowledged the dedication of women scientists, technical staff, and field workers in advancing the institute’s mission.
The program was also attended by Mr. Anand Maitrey, Administrative Officer, Mr. Rahul Yadav, Assistant Finance and Accounts Officer, and Dr. A. J. Gupta, Principal Scientist, who expressed their support for initiatives that promote gender equality and a positive work environment within the organization.
During the program, Mrs. Ashwini Benke delivered an informative lecture on the SHe-Box portal (Sexual Harassment electronic Box) and the provisions of the POSH Act (Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013). She explained the purpose of the SHe-Box portal, the process for filing complaints, and the legal safeguards available for women employees. The session aimed to raise awareness among women staff about workplace rights, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.
A total of about 60 women participants attended the event, including scientists, technical staff, young professionals, skilled personnel, and field labourers of the institute. The celebration provided an opportunity to recognize the contributions of women across different roles and to strengthen awareness about women’s rights and workplace safety.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks to the dignitaries and participants for their valuable presence and support in making the event successful.
