A training programme on “Scientific Cultivation of Onion and Garlic” was organized by ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research for farmers of West Bengal. It was sponsored by Directorate of Horticulture, West Bengal. A total of 22 farmers from different district of West Bengal were participated in the training programme organized at ICAR-DOGR, Pune. The training was of 3 days from February 9-11, 2026. In inaugural function, Dr. Vijay Mahajan, Director, ICAR-DOGR motivated the participants for adopting advance onion and garlic cultivation technologies developed by the Directorate. Different topics related to onion and garlic production, post-harvest and processing were covered in the training programme. Lectures were delivered by the scientists of ICAR-DOGR on improved varieties, nursery management, cultivation practices, fertilizer management, micro-irrigation, pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest management and processing, onion seed production, improving socio-economic status of farmers through SHGs, etc. topics. The various agro-practices were demonstrated to the farmers at ICAR-DOGR farm. Farmers were exposed to different agro-innovative techniques. The queries of the farmers were answered by the scientists of ICAR-DOGR in interactive session. The farmers also expressed their views on the occasion.
