ICAR-DOGR organizes training programme for farmers of West Bengal

A training programme on “Scientific Cultivation of Onion and Garlic” was organized by ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research for farmers of West Bengal. It was sponsored by Directorate of Horticulture, West Bengal. A total of 22 farmers from different district of West Bengal were participated in the training programme organized at ICAR-DOGR, Pune. The training was of 3 days from February 9-11, 2026. In inaugural function, Dr. Vijay Mahajan, Director, ICAR-DOGR motivated the participants for adopting advance onion and garlic cultivation technologies developed by the Directorate. Different topics related to onion and garlic production, post-harvest and processing were covered in the training programme. Lectures were delivered by the scientists of ICAR-DOGR on improved varieties, nursery management, cultivation practices, fertilizer management, micro-irrigation, pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest management and processing, onion seed production, improving socio-economic status of farmers through SHGs, etc. topics. The various agro-practices were demonstrated to the farmers at ICAR-DOGR farm. Farmers were exposed to different agro-innovative techniques. The queries of the farmers were answered by the scientists of ICAR-DOGR in interactive session. The farmers also expressed their views on the occasion. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. S. S. Gadge, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension) and Dr. R.B. Kale, Senior Scientist (Agricultural Extension)
