Training program on Commercial Cultivation of Onion and Garlic under TSP on 14th October 2025
One day training program on “Commercial Cultivation of Onion and Garlic” under TSP was organized by ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research, Rajgurunagar, Pune at village, Terungan (near Bhima Shankar), Ambegoan taluka of Pune (MS) on 14th Oct 2025. The Tribal Sub-Plan aims to establish productive assets for Scheduled Tribes in fostering sustainable growth through increased agricultural output and income generation. As a part of TSP activities, ICAR-DOGR regularly conducts training, demonstrations and input distribution for cultivation and seed production of onion and garlic to provide a source of livelihood to the farmers from this scheme. A total of 40 selected tribal farmers from different parts of Ambegoan taluka of Pune participated in the training program. A total of 20 demonstrations were planned and inputs like onion seeds of improved varieties (Bhima Light Red) was distributed to tribal farmers for Rabi season. Dr. Amar Jeet Gupta, Principal Scientist (Hort.)/Onion Breeder & Nodal Officer (TSP) coordinated the program and briefed about the TSP activities. He also delivered a lecture on the commercial cultivation on onion and garlic as well as the improved varieties of ICAR-DOGR, Pune. Dr. S. S. Gadge, Principal Scientist (Agril. Extension) delivered a lecture on nursery management, insect-pest control remedies and seed production in onion. Dr. Kalyani Gorrepati, Senior Scientist (Agri. Structures & Process Eng.) lectured about the post-harvest management of onion and garlic. Mrs. Mangala S. Salve, I/c Administrative Office appreciated the farmers for participation in TSP and encouraged the women farmers towards empowerment. Farmers including Shri Kantaram Lohkare, Shri Datta Lohkare and Mr. Bhamble expressed their satisfaction and appreciated ICAR-DOGR for its exceptional support to tribal farmers. Program ended with the vote of thanks presented by Shri Chinthaman Damase.
